The Swing Café
Please note: During the Festive Season, the Swing Café
will be closed from 14th December to 6th January inclusive.
We are open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am – 2pm
Breakfast: 10am – 12noon
Lunch: 12noon – 2pm
Drinks and Home baking: 10am – 2pm
(last hot food orders are taken at 1.40pm)
Hospitality is very important to us at Edinburgh Pentlands Parish Church. Nestling in a quiet corner by the Water of Leith, you can find a lovely setting to enjoy a coffee with friends or a bite of lunch at the Café. You will receive a warm welcome from one of the many volunteers who make up the team who carry out all the work at the café.
We are always looking for volunteers to join our team and provide service with a smile for their customers. Team members usually work one day a fortnight on a rota basis from two to five hours. History of the swing
The idea of running a café began on the completion of the building of the Dell Room in 1998. The purpose was to reach out to the community and open the doors of the church throughout the week for the benefit of the local people. It was to be a non-profit making venture and the café opened its doors in 1999.
We also have exhibitions from time to time in the Dell Room.
The name The Swing was inspired by a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson whose grandfather had been the minister at Colinton. Stevenson wrote the poem about the swing in the Manse garden where he had played as a child. The location of the swing can be seen outside the Dell Room window, attached to the old yew tree.
